The Observation Room

They thought communication was the issue

The evidence suggested something else.
The observation

Look a little closer

A leadership team asked for help improving communication.
“We just need everyone communicating better.”
It’s a common request.
So rather than jumping into solutions, we started asking questions.
What information wasn’t being shared? Who needed it? Where was it breaking down?
The more we explored, the clearer it became.
Communication wasn’t the real issue. Expectations were.
People weren’t avoiding conversations. They simply weren’t clear about what good looked like.
Without clarity, everyone filled in the gaps with their own assumptions.
No amount of communication training would solve that.
The missing ingredient wasn’t more conversation. It was shared understanding.
